Call Center Outsourcing

Call center outsourcing is hiring an external provider to staff and operate some or all of a company’s phone-based customer support, instead of building and running an internal call center. The outsourced team answers customer calls, resolves issues, and routes complex cases, typically using the client’s own phone systems, scripts, and brand standards.

Outsourced call centers can handle inbound support, outbound sales or follow-up calls, or a blend of both, and can be scaled up quickly during busy periods without the client hiring or training new staff.

How Call Center Outsourcing Is Priced

  • Pay-per-call — billed based on the number of calls handled
  • Flat-rate — a fixed monthly fee regardless of call volume
  • Per-agent or per-seat — billed based on the number of dedicated agents staffed

Most providers also define response and resolution targets in a service level agreement (SLA).

Why Companies Outsource Call Centers

  • Avoids the cost of building phone infrastructure and hiring an internal team
  • Covers after-hours, weekends, and holidays without overnight internal staffing
  • Absorbs call volume spikes during launches, promotions, or peak season
  • Reduces average hold times and improves first call resolution with trained specialists

Call Center Outsourcing vs Live Chat Outsourcing

Call center outsourcing is channel-specific to phone support, while live chat outsourcing covers real-time text conversations on a website or app. Many companies outsource both together as part of an omnichannel support strategy, using the same trained team across phone and chat.

When Businesses Outsource Their Call Center

  • Call volume regularly exceeds what an internal team can handle
  • Customers expect phone support outside standard business hours
  • The business needs multilingual phone coverage it can’t staff internally
  • Leadership wants predictable, budgeted phone support costs
